The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz

The Plot This book is not nice. Don't read it in bed before going to sleep, because you won't have nice dreams if you manage to put it down. There's a very unpleasant novel (to say the least) inside a very intriguing one. In the beginning, everything goes slowly and I thought that it may not live up to the high expectations I had, but I was wrong.

I didn't really like the main character. A writer who seemed to have lost all hope and whose life was boring until he found "the plot". Then he changes for the better and his life becomes more exciting. He also musters the courage to protect what he has achieved and the second part of the book is much more fast-paced and definitely undownputable.

The final twist didn't come as a surprise to me. However, that fact didn't make it less appealing. The writer disappointed me again for his lack of foresight, inability to connect the dots and helplessness.
The novel didn't disappoint me though. Jean Hanff Korelitz wrote it with the skill of an author who truly knows human nature.

I recommend this novel to readers who are not easily appalled by how terrible people can be.
