The Best Friend by Shalini Boland: review.

The Best Friend
If you like reading about toxic people and harmful friendships, you will love this book. The author describes the main traits of a toxic woman perfectly and also the isolation and fear felt by her victim.

Besides it has a satisfying ending that will please anybody who has unfortunately been in contact with high levels of toxicity and frenemies. I read it in no time, holding my breath and exhaling in relief at the end.

I strongly recommend it to those toxic people who think they can get away with anything, even with murder.

Contribute by Kristy Acevedo:review.

Contribute (Holo, #2)
This is a book for fans of classic sci-fi and modern YA literature. The characters and their evolution are extremely well developed, just like in Consider, and the scientific part of the story won't disappoint you.

This gripping sci-fi novel is based on the idea of a world in which you don't have to work a single day of your life and everything is provided to you . This sounds enticing, but there is just one catch: you will have to contribute with your brain when you die.

It is also a novel about standing up for what you believe and overcoming your fears . Alexandra is a great example of a real heroine. She's scared but she fights. She's not perfect but she tries to grow emotionally and deal with difficulties and loss. She loves her friends and family with all their virtues and flaws and accepts that there is not such thing as a perfect world.

Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this remarkable novel!

Close to Me by Amanda Reynolds: review.

Close To Me
The idea for the plot is good: a memory loss is always intriguing and the story goes back and forth adding more tension to the drama. However, I had a hard time finishing this book and felt truly sad after reading it.

This is novel about a dysfunctional family whose members don't love each other the way they should. We don't really know why or if they ever had a good relationship except for in their holiday pictures. We only know that they seemingly ignore this fact and they keep on interacting with each other until the situation becomes unbearable.

If you are looking for an entertaining novel about the ups and downs of a happy family with a positive outcome, this novel may not appeal to you . On the other hand, if you enjoy reading about troubled families and unloving relationships with a little bit of mystery and twisted characters, this may be a good book for you.

On the Chao Phraya Express Boat in Bangkok Thailand

A unique way to see a different perspective of the busy city of Bangkok is to take the Chao Phraya Express Boat. To access it you need to use the BKK Skytrain (BTS), take the Silom Line and get off at Saphan Taksin. The boat  has several stops that will allow you to visit other parts of the city and you can also use it to see the Royal Palace if you stop at Ta Chang Pier (No.9).

A Good Idea by Cristina Moracho: review

A Good Idea
I disliked the characters in this book, they are all lost, messed-up and addiction-prone teenagers, but they seemed real. I didn't like the stifling atmosphere of the village they live in and yet, it may as well be any small village . This is not the kind of book that you can read before going to bed and then sleep like a log but I just couldn't put it down at the beginning.

Fin returns to Williston, her hometown, to seek revenge for the murder of her best friend Betty whose ex-boyfriend is the main suspect. She is obsessed with it and her obsession made me keep on reading . I needed to find out not only what had really happened to Betty or who her murdered was but I mainly needed to know if it was possible for Fin to survive after having lost her friend, if it was possible for her to somehow move on and start, really start living .

However, when the truth was revealed I could not believe it, no matter how much I tried, it just didn't make any sense to me.

Here is a question which contains a huge SPOILER:

If a close friend of yours asked you to kill him or her, what would you do?

a) Kill your friend with your own hands.

b) Try to help your friend yourself.

c) Get help for your friend.

What  started as a compelling novel didn't seem to me such a good idea after all.

Select by Marit Wiesenberg:review

Select (Untitled #1)
Select was a wish come true for me , not only because my wish for an advanced copy was granted on NetGalley , but also because I was growing tired of shallow YA novels and I needed something to renew my faith in this genre. Select is exactly was I was looking for: the perfect combination between sci-fi and YA literature. What makes this novel really outstanding is that even if you removed the sci-fi part, it would still be a very interesting book to read on real life situations which many young adults can relate to.

We are all special in one way or another, Julia Jaynes is special in many ways. However, the things that make her an appealing character are not her unusual abilities but her human flaws. She longs for being part of a loving family instead of an isolated member of an apparently perfect one.She longs for love and for friendship. John Ford is her wish come true, a strong male character who loves her the way she truly is. With John she learns that there is a world of possibilities away from her life in a golden cage. They both feel strongly attracted to each other but it is not insta-love but something deeper that has to do with human evolution .

This novel is mainly about the choices we all have to make: accepting who we really are ,who we want to be with, deciding how far we are willing to go in order to survive and coming to terms with the idea that we just cannot have it all and that we may have to let go of some people on the way .

Marit Wiesenberg has written a gripping novel that will attract many readers. I just cannot wait for more . I strongly recommend this books to all fans of YA novels, you won't regret reading it!

Thanks to NetGalley for this amazing book!

Evening in Siem Reap Cambodia

Siem Reap is an incredibly lively town specially in the evenings, when all the tourists come back from seeing the ruins . There are many restaurants with all sorts of food and bars as well as a Night Market where you can buy local crafts .
